Indigenous Art Facade Unveiled In Fitzroy

Artwork on front of commercial modular built building

If you’ve passed the corner of Brunswick Street and Victoria Parade recently, you may have noticed a stunning new Indigenous mural wrapping the Australian Catholic University’s modular learning spaces.

You Are, Here Now by artist Megan Cope, forms part of a series of large-scale map works which investigate issues around history, identity, the environment and mapping practices in a Melbourne context.

In collaboration with iAM – an independent arts management service – Cope incorporates a geological map from the 1800s and invites people to situate and see themselves in the space, reflecting on the continual change of the urban and social environment.

Working closely with the University’s project manager Donald Cant Watts Corke, Modscape constructed the prefabricated modular learning spaces that lie beneath the art façade over two stages in 2014 – and we are more than delighted with their finishing touches.
