Project: Glenlyon

This chic country retreat located in the peaceful hamlet of Glenlyon offers guests a sanctuary of seclusion and tranquillity, and adds further diversity to the luxury accommodation market in the Shire of Hepburn Springs.

Aptly named Omaroo, which is derived from the Aboriginal term meaning ‘beautiful view’, this modular home is idyllically situated on a unique property and offers 270-degree views of charming country landscape. The transition between indoor and outdoor areas and the opportunity to draw in the full extent of countryside views informs the layout of the floor plan and the subsequent palette of raw materials . . .

The articulation of the interior space comprises five modules that form three distinct but connected areas. With two master bedroom wings, the size of the modular house is more akin to a four bedroom family home, with a vast centralised kitchen/living/dining area that extends out onto the main deck, providing a sprawling, seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

A duo-chromatic palette and a mix of modern and antique furnishings punctuate the retreat and give it an eclectic and inimitable aesthetic. Galvanised zincalume and the prominent use of wood in the exterior cladding, flooring and cabinetry creates a subtext of rustic ambience that, when combined with the lit double sided wood fire in the living room, draws in the landscape and evokes a cosy sentience in which to relax and indulge.
