Having enjoyed the existing house on their Glen Alice, NSW property for the past six years, the clients know this corner of the Capertee Valley well and recognise its unique position within the surrounding landscape. The new home builds on this familiarity, carefully responding to the landscape while making the most of the uninterrupted views that first drew them to the site.

Primarily designed as a holiday retreat, the house is intended to comfortably host multiple families and groups of friends at any one time. Generous communal spaces encourage shared meals, long conversations and time spent together, while quieter corners allow guests to retreat and unwind. The home is designed for easy living, with simple connections between indoor and outdoor living spaces and clean definition of bedroom wings offering privacy when desired.

Externally, the home combines metal and timber cladding with timber battens, creating a material palette that sits comfortably within that sits quietly in the landscape. To the rear, a façade of concrete look sheeting offers protection from the harsh western sun. The layered façade adds texture and depth while reinforcing the home’s connection to its natural setting.

Large windows frame expansive views across the landscape from multiple aspects, allowing the changing light, weather and seasons to become part of everyday life inside the home. The design places strong emphasis on indoor and outdoor living, with spaces that flow naturally toward terraces and outdoor areas.

A central fireplace anchors the main living space, creating a natural gathering point for cooler evenings and adding warmth to the interior throughout the changing seasons.

The result is a contemporary country holiday home designed for shared experiences, where weekends are spent outdoors, fires burn late into the evening, and time with family and friends becomes the focus.
