As Managing Director, Jan has led Modscape from its founding to become a leader in the modular construction industry in Australia.

Jan’s passion for sustainability through design and modern methods of construction fuels the Modscape brand, values, and capabilities. He is involved in daily operations, overseeing all design, operational and business development matters. His extensive experience in the construction and architecture field also brings a solid understanding of complex projects of scale and strategic thinking – lending out-of-the-box projects to Modscape’s strengths.

Jan is also a founding member of PrefabAUS – an industry association set up to promote and develop the prefabricated construction industry in Australia.

Shaun McMahon brings over 20 years of experience in construction, from a Civil Engineering degree, to Tier 1 building and client-facing roles.

Shaun is a results–driven leader and excels at driving improvement, managing change, and boosting team performance. His broad expertise is a cornerstone in Modscape’s growth and excellence.

With over 20 years in modular construction, Josh brings high-level expertise to our team.

Josh oversees all aspects of Modscape’s pre–construction process spanning both commercial and residential sectors including procurement, project management and consultation, production management and sales management. Josh is passionate about the evolution and growth of the modular space – both locally and internationally.

Scott has over 20 years experience in tax compliance, business process and financial reporting.

Leading Modscape’s finance and accounting duties, Scott delivers financial services including accounting, reporting and budgeting, and oversees organisational policies and legislative compliance. CPA qualified, Scott initially joined Modscape back in 2016 as Financial Controller, and brings a broad range of experience and capabilities to the group.

At Modscape, Aaron oversees residential projects from initial design to completion. With a background in architecture, and deep understanding of construction processes, Aaron transforms ideas into detailed, quality, sustainable homes.

What’s your role at Modscape and what do you love about it?

I am the Residential Design Manager at Modscape, I oversee the residential projects throughout the documentation phase into construction. I love being able to take the conceptual designs produced by our in-house Architects and transform them into detailed high-end sustainable homes.

What inspired you to start a career in architecture?

Ever since I can remember I have always had a fascination with how things go together, from playing with Lego as a kid, to working on cars with my dad growing up. This quickly translated into a strong interest in design and construction and the relationship they share and the influence good design can have on the constructability and quality of the outcome, plus modules and Lego share a lot of similarities!

Any advice you would give to anyone starting out?

Never stop learning, and never be scared to explore new ideas.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Modscape, whose job would you want?

It would have to be Jan’s of course!

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

Bronte Beach, as featured on The Local Project, would have to top my list. This project was a lot of firsts for me, and proved a great learning experience. The final outcome speaks for itself.

With over a decade of experience, Kumar steers Modscape’s design team in executing large–scale commercial projects.

As a registered architect, Kumar is highly skilled in design coordination, technical detailing, and standards compliance. He provides invaluable modular design advice to both external architects and Modscape clients alike.

Mark has been a staple at Modscape for many years, always bringing his energy and expertise to everything he does. With his wealth of experience and positive spark, Mark is an integral part of the team.

​​​​​​What do you enjoy most about being part of the Modscape team?

I’ve been fortunate to be in this industry for a long time, and working with Modscape for the past six years has been an incredible experience. The variety of projects, from bespoke residential homes to healthcare, hotels, and education, keeps things exciting. We’re constantly pushing to streamline DfMA delivery, and it’s a challenge we always rise to.

What inspired you to start a career in construction?

I started in construction back in 1990 as a first-year apprentice carpenter. Over time, I worked my way into BDM and PM roles. Seventeen years ago, I got into modular construction when it was still considered a cabin on a truck. Delivering one of Australia’s first modular hospitals was a pivotal moment for me.

Advice for your younger self?

If you don’t love what you do, don’t be afraid to find something new. Speak up when you have an idea and always be willing to give it a go.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

The CFNR project stands out. We started a second temporary Modscape factory in Melbourne, and just 18 days later, we were in full production, building around 140 accommodation units. It was 36 weeks away from home with a talented team, all during a global pandemic.

Something we don’t know about you…?

I’ve been the oldest person at Modscape for years now, but I’m still the youngest at heart—and the best dancer!

Craig is a skilled Manager with deep roots in venture capital and private equity.

Craig excels in contractor management, business development, resource allocation, and construction oversight. A graduate of Victoria University, he combines his academic knowledge with practical experience, standing out as a seasoned operations professional in the industry.

Mick has a dynamic mix of extensive design and construction expertise, which makes him an invaluable member of the Modscape clan.

The teamwork here is fantastic, and the work / life balance is a big plus! It’s great to be part of a dynamic group of people, who are all committed to supporting and collaborating with one another.

What inspired you to start a career in construction/design?

I’ve always loved putting things together and working with functional design. Tapping into my creative side and developing practical, well-thought-out construction solutions has always been a passion of mine.

Any advice you would give to your younger self or anyone starting out?

Construction can be overwhelming, but breaking things down piece by piece—just like Modscape’s modular design approach—makes it manageable. Good time management is key. Focus on each part of the puzzle, and everything will come together.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

I probably shouldn’t admit this to my prank-loving colleagues, but I have globophobia—yes, I’m terrified of balloons!

Will brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his role as Modbotics Design Manager.

With a background in residential and commercial documentation, Will is pivotal in developing Modscape’s manufacturing processes. Leveraging BIM, along with other advanced digital workflows, Will guarantees that precision and efficiency are consistently integrated into every project.

Malissa is a natural problem solver with a keen eye for detail. Her passion for piecing together complex projects makes her an invaluable member of our estimating team, where she thrives on turning every challenge into a complete solution.

In my role as an Estimator, I love putting together different components of a project to create a complete cost estimate. It requires accurate detail analysis.

What inspired you to start a career in construction?

I’ve always loved building things, whether it was puzzles, Lego, or intricate models. That natural curiosity evolved into a passion for turning ideas into reality through construction, which pushed me to pursue my studies and eventually a career in the field.

Any advice you would give to your younger self?

Embrace change and take risks. The biggest opportunities for growth come when you step out of your comfort zone. It’s how you develop new skills and discover strengths you didn’t know you had.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

t’s hard to pick just one, as each project has its own memorable moments. But estimating my first project independently at Modscape and then watching it come to life in the factory stands out as one of the highlights of my career.

Would you rather meet your ancestors or descendants?

My descendants. I’d love to see how technology evolves and shapes the way people live in the future.

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Definitely seeing Dariush, one of my favourite Iranian singers.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

A helicopter, a skilled pilot, and my phone to capture some photos on the way home.

Steven brings a well-rounded perspective to each project, having managed costs for both client and builder. His passion for building runs deep, sparked by early influences and solidified through years of hands-on experience across Australia.

What were you doing before you came to Modscape?

I started as a Quantity Surveyor, focusing on cost management for clients, particularly in commercial projects like schools and fire stations. After a few years, I wanted to understand more of the builder’s side, so I transitioned to an estimator role with a fitout company before eventually joining Modscape.

How did you get into construction?

I was inspired by my mum, who was heavily involved in building houses back in Vietnam. She managed the design and construction of several homes, and I got to witness the process firsthand. Even though I initially studied chemistry, I realised my passion was in construction, so I made the switch.

What drew you to modular construction?

My first exposure to modular construction was during my time as a Quantity Surveyor, working on projects like kindergartens and schools. I was impressed by the efficiency and how much of the work could be done offsite.

What’s something you’ve learned at Modscape that surprised you?

I was surprised by how different the installation process is in modular construction. Most of the work is completed in the factory, then transported to site for installation. It’s a stark contrast to traditional construction, where everything happens on-site, and it really changes the way you approach costing. I also didn’t expect to be working on projects all over Australia, from Victoria to Queensland, which has been an exciting challenge.

How do you unwind after a long day?

I stay pretty active after work. I run in the mornings, play badminton, and practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu. When I’m sparring or playing a match, I’m completely focused – it’s a great way to unwind.

As a talented jewellery maker, Harrison loves both small and large scale construction. He’s a keen team player who is always looking for new ways to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the way we build.

I enjoy being able to follow all the stages of a project – from design to construction in the factory, to completion on site.​​​​​​​​

I’ve always loved the process of learning how to make things previously making jewellery, and I was interested in how to build much bigger things. I’m inspired to create a more sustainable future.​​​​​​​​

A vital member of our commercial design team, Khan brings a diverse skillset and unbridled enthusiasm. Despite this, he insists his best work is done on the office pool table.

Modular construction is fast-paced and constantly evolving, and we’re only skimming the surface of its potential. You’ll never get bored! One moment you’ll be designing a single modular project. The next, it’ll be a 250-module project.

What inspired you to start a career in design?

Ever walked into a building foyer and stared up at it in awe? That feeling – that’s what got me into it.

Any advice you would give to your younger self?

Don’t be afraid to speak up. Your one-percent idea might be the solution to the problem.

Most memorable Modscape project so far?

The most memorable, challenging, and rewarding project has been the Mental Health Beds Expansion Program. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside experts across the design and construction industry to deliver modules for these much–needed local mental health facilities in Epping and North Geelong.

David’s love for design started early, surrounded by drafting tools and drawings thanks to his family’s deep roots in architecture. David’s commitment to turning client dreams into reality has made him an invaluable part of the Modscape team.

What’s your role at Modscape and what do you love about it?

My role as Senior Architect has a strong design focus, which I love.

What inspired you to start a career in architecture?

My family was in the architectural world, so I was immersed in it from a young age. Being around drawings and design tools was a defining experience for me as a kid.

Any advice you would give to your younger self?

Study hard and experiment more.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Modscape, whose job would you want?

I wouldn’t switch – I’ve already got the job I want.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

Every project I work on has taught me a valuable lesson.

Would you rather meet your ancestors or descendants?

I’ve seen too many movies to risk answering that!

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring?

A boat, a motor, and a good sense of direction.

Brendan is an expert in handling challenging projects and can often be found in remote locations overseeing installations and performing site access checks. Known for his problem-solving skills, he ensures every project runs smoothly and successfully.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the Modscape?

The speed that we design, build and complete quality projects is breaking the industry norms on a daily basis. Also, seeing clients go through our process and move into their completed homes gives a real sense of accomplishment.

What inspired you to start a career in construction?

I have always loved building things from an early age starting with Lego and dump trucks in the mud. My Pop had worked as an engineer and designer and suggested I study building design, from there I’ve moved into various other roles expanding my knowledge.

Any advice you would give to your younger self?

When someone says something can’t be done, show them it can. You can do anything just apply yourself and stay focused.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Modscape, whose job would you want?

I’d take Jan’s position as CEO!

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

The Centre for National Resilience project was a game-changer. We established a temporary factory, enabling us to complete two buildings per day over 18 days. Achieving that alongside the Modscape team and subcontractors, especially during Covid restrictions, was incredibly rewarding.

Welan brings a keen eye for detail, and brings over a decade of experience working on projects of all sizes. Welan is a certified Revit expert, and a car enthusiast.

​​​​​​What do you enjoy most about being part of the Modscape team?

I love working closely with the entire project delivery team – from builders to estimators. Plus, it’s exciting to be able to walk from my desk to the manufacturing facility and see projects come to life.

What inspired you to start a career in architecture?

I was drawn to architecture because of my love for drawing – no pun intended! As I studied and worked, I quickly realised that the sketch is just the beginning. Now, the most thrilling part for me is the problem-solving and watching the process lead to a finished result.

Any advice you would give to your younger self or anyone starting out?

Be patient and honest with yourself. There’s so much to learn in this industry, and it takes time. Thankfully, there are plenty of great people around to help you along the way.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

An off-grid house in the middle of country Victoria. It was my first time working on such a remote and expansive site.

Damien is a master in keeping our suppliers and staff happy, ensuring everything runs smoothly with on-time payments. Originally from the UK, Damien has called Melbourne home for over 7 years, and we’re proud to have him as part of the Modscape family.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the Modscape team?​​​​​​​​

I love the fast pace – the busier, the better!

If it’s a dwelling, Lewis is on top of it, managing every project from the factory floor to handover. As a morning person, he’s often the first to arrive each day, ensuring everything runs smoothly. And while he’s a die-hard Collingwood supporter, we don’t hold that against him.

​​​​​​​​What’s your role at Modscape and what do you love about it?

I’m a Project Manager, which I love thanks to the diverse range of project Modscape offers – from bespoke architecturally designed homes to complex commercial projects, right across Australia.

What inspired you to start a career in the built environment?

My dad worked in the industry, so from an early age I had exposure to all facets of construction and my passion grew from there.

Any advice you would give to anyone starting out?

There are a lot of talented and experienced leaders in the industry. I’ve always found the best way to improve and grow is through observing how these leaders operate and incorporate that into my own day-to-day role.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

The current project we’re undertaking with our client, Qbuild. Modscape are assisting the Qbuild team with an ‘uplift’ programme, which aims to upskill trainees and apprentices in QLD and further promote the benefits of modern methods of construction in Australia.

Would you rather meet your ancestors or descendants?

Ancestors. I recently signed up to ancestory.com to find out about my family history which spans back to the early 1600s in Northhamptonshire, England.

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Embarrassingly, the only concert I have ever been to is for Drake in 2019 – so that would be the best!

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Moreton bay bugs, brioche rolls, and Kewpie mayonnaise.

Mihaela is a master of managing complex, fast-paced projects and brings a wealth of experience to the team.

What were you doing before you came to Modscape?

I was a project manager in Queensland for a company that did industrial warehouses.

How did you get into construction?

I was a tomboy. I always liked things that were more technical. Because I loved maths, my first choice was economics. But when applying to university, I realised I wanted to see something more tangible at the end of the day, rather than just paperwork. I got into construction and never looked back.

What drew you to modular construction?

I love a challenge, and it was something new and different. I’m always drawn to excitement, adventure, and change… I changed countries, changed states, and changed companies. Why not change the way we build?

What’s something you’ve learned at Modscape that surprised you?

I’m surprised how a company can be so diverse, culturally, without it being its main goal. A lot of people preach on how diverse they are. But when you come to Modscape, you see people from different backgrounds, different nationalities, different experience levels, and it all works as a team. Modscape focuses on capabilities, and this naturally attracts people from different backgrounds.

How do you unwind after a long day?

I let my kids watch a comedy and just enjoy their giggles. I sit with my husband, maybe have a coffee or a glass of wine, and take in their laughter.

Beneta’s journey at Modscape highlights her adaptability and dedication. Starting as an office manager, she quickly moved to sales manager, excelling in client relationships. When the chance to become an interior designer came up, her creative background made her a natural fit, showcasing her ability to thrive in diverse roles.

What’s your role at Modscape and what do you love about it?

As the residential interior designer,  I love seeing the uniqueness of each project we work on, and how the design evolves and emphasises the best elements of modular building.

What inspired you to start a career in design?

Design has always inspired me, from art, to fashion, interiors, architecture, and music. I think it’s all very connected. The interior architecture of a building is very important in enhancing a space – it’s more than just soft furnishing or paint colours. You can create a mood or ambience in a space by working with different materials, lighting, and flow.

Any advice you would give to your younger self or anyone starting out?

Just do what makes you happy! Don’t follow a career path because that’s what your meant to do, its your life so find work that nourishes you.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Modscape, whose job would you want?

Hmm, I don’t think I would to be honest! But I wouldn’t mind swapping with the factory team for a day, I think I could pick up some useful building skills and maybe even drive the crane!

Tom is known for being an all-around great guy by staff, trades, and clients alike. After starting as a carpenter in regional Victoria, Tom joined Modscape as a site supervisor. Since relocating to Melbourne with his family, he’s overseen the construction of multi-level schools, accommodation units, and health facilities. As a busy father of three daughters, Tom is all about efficiency.

​​​​​​What do you enjoy most about being part of the Modscape team?

Every day brings a new challenge, and seeing the finished product is incredibly rewarding.

What inspired you to start a career in construction?

Watching my dad build our family home and seeing the pride he took in completing it really inspired me to pursue this path.

Any advice you would give to your younger self or anyone starting out?

Spend time with people who push you to be better.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on so far?

AOD Wangaratta, my first project with Modscape, where I worked with an amazing team.

Would you rather meet your ancestors or descendants?

Ancestors—maybe they could explain a few things!

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Foo Fighters, hands down.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring?

A fishing rod, some beer, and a satellite phone.

Before Modscape, Jingwen spent years honing her skills in modular building components. Her sharp coordination skills and passion for problem-solving are invaluable to the team. Jingwen is also a strong advocate for women in construction, and dedicates her spare time to mentoring others.

What were you doing before you came to Modscape?

I was working for a modular builder specialising in bathroom components. I started as a Project Coordinator and later moved into Contracts Administration. This shift to CA allowed me to focus on my strength in numbers and coordination.

How did you get into construction?

I was studying architecture in Singapore, but realised I preferred construction management. I preferred the collaborative, problem-solving side of construction, where there’s a greater emphasis on communication and working with people.

What drew you to modular construction?

I became interested in modular construction while working with bathroom pods in my previous role. Modscape’s approach of building entire structures, rather than just components, really stood out to me. It’s where the industry is going, especially in Australia where labour costs are so high. Technology improves productivity, making the whole building process far more efficient.

What’s something you’ve learned at Modscape that’s surprised you?

I’ve been impressed with how structured Modscape’s processes are. The company doesn’t rely on any one person to move things along. Here, the system is setup to support the whole team, which allows the company to grow and run efficiently.

How do you unwind after a long day?

I usually go to the gym in the morning, whereas in the evenings I prefer low intensity activities like stretching or Pilates. I love playing golf, so with summer coming, I’m hoping to fit in a few rounds after work while it’s still light outside. It’s a great way to relax and recharge.

Nick has been a key member of the Modscape team since 2020. As a Contract Administrator, he serves as the vital link between Modscape, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, ensuring every project runs smoothly from start to finish.

​​​​​​What do you enjoy most about being part of the Modscape team?

The diversity and inclusivity are standout aspects. I get to be involved in each project’s journey from the estimators and designers to the site team. It’s rewarding to see it all come together.

What inspired you to start a career in construction/design?

The idea of creating something that could last forever and be enjoyed by others really drew me in. Plus, I’ve been surrounded by people in the industry—engineers, landscapers, sustainability consultants, and project managers—so it was only a matter of time before I caught the construction bug.

Any advice you would give to your younger self or anyone starting out?

Don’t rush into things. Take a moment to get your bearings before diving in—that way, you give yourself the best chance to succeed.

Most memorable project you’ve worked on?

I’ve been lucky to work across both the Commercial and Residential sides of Modscape. Rolling out the NSW Rural Hospital Accommodation Units was a highlight, showing the efficiency of modular construction. But more recently, the residential projects have been fantastic, creating homes that families can enjoy for generations.

I’ve got more surfboards than I have arms to carry them, but you never know which one you’ll need on any given day!
