KEEPING MODSCAPE IN THE FAMILY – BLUEYS BEACH
From windy ocean roads to sandy beaches, picturesque mountains and plentiful agricultural plains, the benefits of modular – the control, predictability and accessibility – is ideally suited to remote, complex or regional sites.
Take our Kimberley project in Western Australia for example. As one of our first projects, completed over 11 years ago for the managers of the Yougawalla Cattle Station, the modular home/school/workers accommodation sits amongst millions of acres in the heart of one of Australia’s harshest and remote environments. When the modules arrived onsite it took the team another eight hours to drive to the building site!
In contrast, on the other side of the country on quite a small block (but no less unique) sits Blueys Shack – a cosy refuge amongst the tropical bush.
The compact beach house is not the average Modscape project. But when the brother of the Kimberley client approached us with a unique idea for their stunningly beautiful site in Blueys Beach, NSW, it was hard to say no.
Designed by Modscape, the retreat is part prefabricated modules, part bespoke in-situ build and is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Australian beach shack.
The two bedroom getaway is both innovative and beautifully crafted. Designed to emphasize its stunning tropical setting and positioned to take in the sun all day long, it’s easy to kick back and relax. Alternatively, you can grab the surf board and beach umbrella and head to the white sands of Blueys Beach just 100m away.
With just 90sqm of internal space, the small footprint encourages visitors to go back to basics and make the most of the outdoors. There’s no TV and no mobile phone reception. The cabin offers a secluded tropical experience – a refuge in the natural environment – and even sports an outdoor shower so you’re bathing alongside the birds and crickets.
In late 2017 two modules containing the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms were transported from our Melbourne factory and craned into place. Onsite works by a talented friend of the owners bridged the gap between the modules. The living area, shower room and surrounding deck are all made from beautiful local and reclaimed Blackbutt timber. While the food truck windows open up to the breakfast bar and decking to create a cosy hang spot while cooking.
